| QUIT CLAIM DEED NOTICES! Beginning September 15, 2006 the Cook County Reorder of Deeds will be notifying homeowners of Quit Claim Deeds filed on their property. This program is a result of a Cook County Property Fraud Task Force review of the recording process and the increase in fraud cases in Cook County.
The postcard notices will be sent out beginning September 15, 2006 and will
be mailed to the property address to notify the resident that a quit claim
deed has been filed on the property. Homeowners who are unaware of the
transaction can see their own attorney or contact CCRD for referral to
assisting agencies. |
DON'T BE FOOLED! Watch for letters in the mail from Document Provider companies offering to send you certified copies of your land records. Remember that only the Cook County Recorder of Deeds is authorized by law to certify document copies and make them the legal equivalent of the original document. These companies come to our office and buy your deed, often for less than $30.00, then sell it back to you for more than twice the price. You can purchase your own certified copies at our website at www.ccrd.info with just a credit card and they will be mailed to you the next day. |
| COMING SOON … DOCUMENTS BACK TO 1970! Cook County Recorder of Deeds Eugene “Gene” Moore has announced a new back file conversion project that will allow public access to document images back to 1970 via the Internet and in the CCRD office. The nearly $2 million contract has been entered into with AmCad, the Rock Island, Illinois firm will begin work on the project in September of 2006 and will finish by September 2007. AmCad will be delivering year-to-year index data and images as they are completed and CCRD hopes to import that information directly to the Internet and in-house production environments for public access. |
